WADE'S JOURNAL
February

My last
week in Australia was great, did some training and riding
and also some resting. I went into Sydney a few time's for
dinner and also just to look around to see how much has changed.
The house that I purchased on the Gold Coast in Australia
went through so I am an official first time homeowner in Australia
now. The flight back from Australia was Ok, and it took me
a few days to get back on track of time in the US. The last
weekend before my BMX race season started I went up to Big
Bear to prepare for my Downhill come back by snow boarding
down the mountain for the day.
For the
first few days at Narribeen I took it easy after my ear surgery
and was playing around at the Rock pools on the beach and
also doing some fishing in the lake. I through in the line
for the first time and within 10 sec I had a fish. I was like
this is easy, but every time after that, the fish would just
nibble the bait away.
Thursday
the 24th of Jan, I went into Sydney by ferry from Manly and
also cruised over to the Zoo, did a little site seeing by
going to the top of Center Point tower and also over to Darling
Harbor. On the way into Sydney a few Navy ships where on there
way out to support the "War against Terrorists". This was
a long day but the weather was perfect as it was overcast
all day.
Friday was
another day at the beach as the weather was perfect. Floating
from the lake to the Beach was so relaxing I wish I had more
days like this. Saturday was Australia Day, I had to do a
quick TV gig and then it was back to the beach. That evening
we went into Sydney again to see some fireworks and I was
expecting to see them off the Sydney Harbor Bridge like the
other hundreds of people but they had all of them at Darling
Harbor which luckily we could still see some of it. The views
from the ferry coming or going from Sydney day or night are
awesome; these are some of the best sites of the world.
Sunday I
went to the gym for the last time and I spent most of the
day hanging around and started to pack up the bikes and get
ready to fly out on Monday. I could not believe that 2 months
have gone by so quick and that I am back on the circuit again
racing in 2 weeks. I had a great time in Australia again and
the WadeBootes.com Tour Down Under was a huge success. I would
like to thank all the guys at JBL, Blaupunkt, and Doran Audio
again for decking out the Bus. You can go and see all the
equipment used to make the bus a huge success in the extreme
installation section on www.JBL.com. Also like to thank the
following for the support and give a ways on tour: Trek/Volkswagen,
O'Neal/Azonic, Vans, Oakley, Bombshell, AC, Marwi. I have
to thank my Mum, Dad and my brother Steven for helping out
with setting up the rig and etc.
Monday was
a normal travel day but just 12 1/2 hour long flight. It was
good to be back State side so I could start organizing things
and get ready for the race season. The first few days I was
just trying to get to bed before midnight and get up in the
morning, I had a little trouble with Jet lag. I am one of
those guys who can't wait for the mailman to come and when
you are gone for 2 months there is a lot of it. The weather
was so cold when I arrived back but the views coming into
LA was probably the clearest I have ever seen. Saturday I
went Snowboarding, and stopped over at Robert Macpherson's
house on the way. He joined us and we had a lot of fun, even
though Robert was taken out by a huge out of control snowboarder.
Robert's
wife had their baby girl early Tuesday morning Feb 5th, congratulations
to both of them. Soon I will have new photos in the photo
Gallery from Australia and my 2002 Race schedule is up. Schedule
may change due to conflicting weekends and added events. Trek/Volkswagen
training camp is coming up so I will receive all my new mountain
bikes and gear for the year there. Brian Lopes just purchased
a new place and will soon build trails in his back yard.
See you
soon,
Wade Bootes
