WADE'S JOURNAL March 30th Last day of Camp.... Did alot of runs on the Dual Slalom course at the Bootleg Canyon trails. We started to pack everything up and had a relaxing afternoon. We then went into Las Vegas and had dinner and to show Mio around as it was her first time.
March 29th Yesterday we arrived into Boulder City just outside of Las Vegas. Here at Bootleg Mountain is an awesome spot to do some Down Hill mountain bike riding. They have a 4 cross course, slalom, jump trails and a bunch of crazy down hill runs. I did a few runs down the hill with Mio on my Liquid Trek and today I spent most of the day on my race fuel. Started out at the BMX track and did a few starts before they raced and then jumped on the 4 cross and slalom course. It was a good full day on my bike.
March 25th
March 23rd
March 22nd Travis Brown and I slept in after a late and long day yesterday and watched more of the War in Iraq, as that's all that is showing on TV these days. We arrived to the venue and had our Autograph signing and then did a few laps of the course to check it out, it was about a 5 minute loop. The crit race is 20 minutes long plus one lap. The course was really fast and the guys planned to keep the pace high, which was not so good for me. I ended up starting ok and sat behind Travis for most of the first lap in 9th, there was only a few slight up hills in the course, but for my little legs the lactic acid build up was still to much for them. Just before the finish of the first lap I had to slow down my pace and a few riders went rolling by. I stuck in there for another few laps and ended up pulling off. I was just having fun out there and was not in the mood to thrash up my body. Roland ended up finishing 2nd and Travis rolled in for 6th. I had a blast out there racing with my team mates, I never get the chance to race with them or even race cross country. Tomorrow I am starting the long cross country race but I have a pretty good feeling I will pull out pretty early. The main thing is I am having fun and that I get to ride some really cool single track.
March 21st Today was the start of the Nova Desert Classic cross country stage race. We started with the the time trail which was a 8.7 mile loop. Yesterday I did a lot of riding with the team checking out all the courses for the weekend. I think I over did it as I was a little beat for the Time Trail. I thought I was only going to be racing the last stage which is the cross country so I had a few days to recover. When I arrived to the truck this morning I seen my start time and they said I was racing all the stages. No problem, as I will just do it all at my own pace..... real slow. After the race we then went to do a shop visit and an autograph session and had a team dinner. We ended up getting back late which made the day real long. Sue won the women's, Alison was 6th, Roland came in 4th and Travis 5th. I rolled in for the 25th spot....
March 19th Today we did team and individual photos. Luckily the weather was better as we had some sun came out for a few of the photos. This was pretty much a full day, with a little waiting around going on. Yesterday we had Media day and also had a few of our sponsors come by and show us all the new products we will be running this year, Shimano, Rock Shox, IRC, Power Bar, and Trek engineered energy drink. We then went on a fun ride together and had another huge dinner with everyone.
March 17th
March 15th I slept in as I needed to catch up on some sleep from the late nights of chatting and catching up. I went to the gym and cruised around on my bike. We had media training today with the with Gary Fisher team, which lasted a few hours and the went into a huge combined team dinner. March 14th We had a team meeting in the morning to go over the plan for the week and then we took off on a team cross country ride on our new Carbon fuel Trek's. It was a great ride, 2 1/2 hours of fun single track with not much climbing. On the ride we ran into another rider who landed in a cactus and could not wear his riding gear because of all the thorns. He made a funny wrap around his unit with his jersey and cruised on by down the hill. It was really funny to see. After we arrived back at camp we then had lunch and then had our scheduled massages. March 13th Pretty much a travel day. I left my car out at Robert's and had Pete drive me to the Airport as I was flying out to Phoenix for training camp. It was a 2 hour drive from the airport to Sedona, AZ. I arrived just in time to have dinner with most of the team. Got back to the room to see all the new team gear we have for this year. 2 huge bags full of it. March 12th Today I went down to Oakley to stock up on gear for the start of the season. These guys have some really cool stuff coming out, lots of clothing and shoe wear, along with some new style glasses. In the afternoon I went out to Sheep hills to ride and then planned on doing gates at Orange. Sheep was looking really good. I went to pedal out of a corner for a set of doubles and I felt the shape pain go through my leg. The same area that I crashed on last weekend. It seemed I could ride but I could not get on it and sprint. So I did not get to ride much and then decided not to go to Orange as it would have been a waste of my time. I then headed back to Robert's for the night. March 11th In the morning I went to Toolshed and Nema who provide me with Underwear and some casual gear for the year. They have some really cool gear this year. I then went back to Petes house as he is moving out and into his new house later this week. I finally got rid of the last few things I had left there last year. The house was pretty much packed up and ready to go. I had to do a few more things and organize myself as I am am planning on not basing any where this year in the States, basically staying on the road with the team. I then drove back to Robert's house after traffic as Pete had a full house with his Mother and Father in-law staying the week. March 10th I landed in La at 7am, and went to Pete's house to gather some of my things and to catch up. Jamie Staff was there and was staying with Pete for a few days. I then headed to O'Neal to get my new racing gear and helmets for the start of the season and a bunch of shirts. I then quickly got out of there so I could beat the traffic as I was staying at Robert Macpherson house. I am so over the traffic in LA. It makes it so hard to get around. March 9th Waking
up was not so good, my right hip was swollen and hard to move as well as my right
shoulder. I rolled around the track a few time and then tried to do a start, my
side of my leg was not happy. It was hard to pedal and when spinning I could feel
the fluid moving back and forth. I struggled through moto's and managed to make
the main. I did not have the speed as yesterday or the mental toughness to soak
up all the pain, but I moved my way to 3rd place. Middil ended up passing Johnno
on the line for first and Tiger finished behind me. Looking at points for the
overall, it is a tight race between the 4 of us, with Johnno now leading by a
1 point over me. Come to the Worlds in July, Australia look to have a good number
of riders in the running for the World Championship title and the overall UCI
ranking. March 8th Drove
down to Canberra for the ACT Titles and the 3rd round of the UCI series with Troy
Fisher and Grant White. It was raining most of the way down, but by the time we
got there the rain had stopped and the track was starting to dry up. We got there
just in time for a quick few laps of practice and I then decided in racing today's
race. I was back and forth on my decision as I was mainly here to race the UCI
race. March 7th Pretty much a catch up day, worked on my bike to make sure it is all ready for the weekend. In the afternoon I jumped on my TTR dirt bike for a quick little session. March 6th Went to the airport to see Rochelle off, on the way we had lunch with her sister. That afternoon I went to gate practice with Troy Fisher. Katrina Miller was going to show up but she fell asleep after a hard day on the road bike. March 5th I went to say bye to Mum before I flew out to Sydney, got to the airport and the flight was delayed. So we checked in and went back to spend some more time with Mum. The flight ended up being delayed 3 hours. We went over to Rochelle's Dads and had a little paddle on the surf ski. Finally arrived into Sydney and did something's on the way to Rochelle's house. Quickly did some training and then spent the remainder of the night watching Rochelle pack up as she was heading off to Italy tomorrow.
March 4th Today I started to pack up as I am leaving tomorrow, did some training, seen some of my friends before I left. It rained most of the day so I popped in a movie into my JBL entertainment system. Went back to the Hospital again to see Mum and had dinner out.
March 3rd We went out on the Jetski early in the morning and cruised around the river and broad water and also went out and jumped some more waves. Had lunch with Mal and Diana at our favorite Sushi joint. Did some training in the afternoon down near the beach. Went to see Mum at the Hospital and then had dinner with Rochelle's Dad.
March 2nd I did some training at the Gym and some gates at Nearang as it has been a while since I did some. Rochelle flew in late after her 1st World cup road race in Melbourne finishing 2nd in the bunch sprint which gave her a respectable 9th for the day. March 1st Went out on the Jetski in the morning and jumped a few waves.. it was a little rough out there but still got some big air.
