WADE'S JOURNAL April 30th Today I was at the gym working on some explosive power, then I was off for a little ride. I stopped in to the doctors office to pick up my results as the UCI is making all trade teams do mandatory Medical tests 2 times per year, plus random testing at races. The first one was due May 1st and all looks good. April 29th I got to ride at the Semi Valley trails again and had a good time. Also find out from Hi Torque that they received 3000 new memberships from the Wade Bootes Bike give a way in the BMX Plus.
April 28th Today I went to some new trail which Orlando built in Pales Verdes we did some filming for a new Super Heros Video. We then went back to the whoops section and did some more filming. We all had a great day and enjoyed the view of Catalina Island and down town LA. April 27th I landed late last night in Dallas, TX for the service of my friend Tom Wright, it was a beautiful service, it was a tough day and a great man was lost. Close friends of the family gathered at their house for lunch and to give them famliy support. Tom will be missed by a lot of people, he was a great man. I then had a flight back to LA as I had plans with a few friends to go to the Hard Rock to see the Frajile band play. It was a great night but also a long day.
Hard Rock Cafe in Beverly Hills. April 26th Last few days I have been riding my MTB at some trails in Semi Valley which are really cool. Today I went to the whoops section in LA, about 150 whoops in a row with corners and dirt jumps, it was a blast. I am going back there Sunday to do some filming and I will also make sure to get some shots to put up on the website so you can check it out. I am flying to Dallas tonight, and will be back Saturday night and then see the band Frajile play at the Hard Rock Cafe in Beverly Hills. April 23rd Monday and Tuesday I was doing downhill runs at the rocky peak trail, north of LA. My parents are on their way on their first Tour in the Motor Home in Australia, so the hits should be coming in big on the website this next month. My friend Thomas Wright was found deceased today in Dallas, TX. He will be missed by a lot of great people. Tom and his family are big supporters of mine and we have had many good times together. Tom was always there for me, he will be missed forever. April 21st I finished 4th in AA Saturday night at the Tulare ABA National, I feel I am back in the swing of things and feel good for the up and coming MTB season. I also found out that my friend Thomas Wright was Missing since April 14th. April 19th I am on my way up to the ABA race in Tulare, California which should take about 4 hours in my new Turbo Jetta Volkswagen. I got to go out and play on my dirt bike the other day with Pete Dylewski, it was a lot of fun and I need to get on it more.
I also did some downhill runs the other day and will be doing more next week. Brain Lopes, Mike King, Robbie Miranda and I did a day trip to San Diego trails. We hit about 4 or 5 spots and drove down in Brians new sports mobile. I came up short on one of the doubles down there and took a pretty big digger. I was lucky that I walked away. Expect to see more frequent updates as I am now able to do some with my new computer. See you soon Wade

1st , 2002 OK, OK…….. I know it has been a while since I have done an update so I am going to quickly let you know what has been happening in the last 2 months. Feb 9th and 10th weekend I went to Tennessee for an ABA BMX race and place 7th one day. Feb 18th was the start of the Trek Volkswagen Training camp. Here we meet all the new Team Member and received all our new bikes and gear for the year. The first week I did not do that much with the mountain bike as I was racing BMX the following weekend in Oklahoma. I finished with a 4th Saturday and a 4th on Sunday. The following week I was back in Solvang (30 minutes north of Santa Barbara, CA) at training camp and started to do a lot of stuff with my new down hill bike. We also had our individual and team photo shoots this week. We had media day as well, which included all our sponsors. I was in charge of the easy fun ride, which included the ladies for Volkswagen, Power bar and Trek. It was a busy week and I did not get to much sleep and ended up getting a little sick. But it seems I always get sick around this time of the year any way.
On the way back down from training camp I had a photo shoot with O’Neal/Azonic March 6th and then went to New Mexico ABA National March 9th 10th weekend. Again I place 7th one day. Seems I have some work to do on my BMX bike with results like that. After that weekend I was riding my bike getting ready for Sea Otter, testing out my new bike and suspension from Rock Shox. I was riding with Christophe Leveque and Robbie Miranda a few days and also got to go out to the Playground again. I drove up to Monterey for the Sea Otter Classic March 20th; I ended up racing the Dual, Mountain cross and the Downhill. It was a busy weekend with all the practice times and race schedule. I qualified 2nd in Mountain cross and 4th in the dual, down hill was just one run. I was riding good and felt I was going to good like I did the past 2 years. I had mechanic trouble as Peter the new mechanic is from Canada who live close to Roland and Alison which are on the team for cross country. Peter had trouble at the border and could not come in so Stew, an old GT mechanic help out the team and myself for the weekend. It was a little crazy as Peter was not fully finished with my bikes and Stew ended up having to finish things up. We also have the Junior Female Downhill World Champion, Mio on the team now from Japan, which made things tight, first race of the year, a last minute fill in Mechanic, new staff. But we all manage and got the job done. Saturday night Dual Finals, I slipped a pedal in my first run in the round of 16 against Rich Houseman and ended up crashing on the last jump. I then had to make up 1.5 sec on a fast course. I won the second run but it was not enough for me to transfer to the next round. Cedric Gracia won overall with King 2nd lopes third Cater 4th.
Down hill was early Sunday morning and I finished 3 sec behind the winner, I place 8th overall. Nathan Rennie from Australia ended up winning. The course was short, but fun as it was just like a long dual course. Mountain cross I won every race up until the final. My rear shock blew on my world cup bike through the stutter bumps, which forced me to run my Fuel bike in the final. My world cup bike has 4” of travel in the front and rear where my Fuel has 3.5” in the front and 2” in the rear. I ended up getting a bad start as I was in the wrong gear and ended catching back up until Cedric ejected from one of the jumps and took me out with him. I got up first and then seen Carter on the ground in the next corner. I rode by Eric to take second overall as Brian won from the start.
Sunday night the team got a look at the new proto type bike from Trek, which you may see me, racing towards the end of the season. It's pretty trick. Monday morning I drove back home and took it easy for most of the week and enjoyed the weekend off on Easter weekend. Hopefully this will help recharge my batteries for the following weekend, as I will be in Phoenix AZ racing BMX. This race will be televised. Today was the first TV show for PUMP (New BMX TV series), We did a session at sheep hills last week with Christophe, Dale, Wild man and the locals guys at sheep, the coverage turned out pretty cool. So until next time I will be training and racing for the busy Mountain bike season ahead. See you soon, PAST JOURNAL ENTRIES DOWN UNDER TOUR 2001-02 February
