WADE'S JOURNAL

April 29th

This was the last day we had training on the track before the races begin Wednesday. My first race will be Thursday afternoon, so I still have some time to get that spark back in me to push those hard gears. Spent some time with the Queensland team at their place and also met up with some of the sprinters I was training with in Adelaide earlier in the year. Ended up heading back down to the house to chill out for the rest of the day but ended up running around getting things done before tomorrow.

Taking it easy after a few laps.

I arrived into Sydney yesterday with the WadeBootes.com motor home, picked up Rochelle from the airport as she just flew in from Italy. We headed down to her place to camp out there for a few nights and then did some training up at the Velodrome in Sydney today. I was still feeling pretty weak and tired, but still did a few laps around the track.

Going through the motions at the Sydney Velodrome.

April 25

In the last few days I had the chance to go to the Velodrome and work with State coach Peter Day, just to go over a few things and get used to the track bike again. Last night I was feeling pretty good on the bike again and putting out some good times. Later that night I was starting to get a cold, during the start of the week I could not stop itching my eyes or stop sneezing. By the morning I was feeling pretty bad, no energy and just feeling weak. So I did nothing all day to try and see if I could shake it off.

April 21st

This was a crazy week.... flying back from the State's 2 hours after my last race at Sea Otter and arriving home on Tuesday in Australia. I did a little riding on my BMX bike at home and then flew to Adelaide for the next 2 UCI races and the National Championships. Practice was Thursday and I was not feeling so great on my BMX bike as I have not spent much time on it. The track was tight and it was a big advantage from lane 1 as the first corner was a flat sweeping 180' bend. Saturday was the first UCI race and I was hanging in there, made it to the main and was looking good. Tiger got the snap from lane 1 in the main and I tried to high low him in the first corner and pull by him into the second corner. I ended up backing off a little as I knew I was not going to get by in time, so I went wide to get the rail. Mean while Middil dove on the inside of me and slide the rear end a little and I ended up high siding on his back wheel. So I ended up rolling in for 8th which was not so good for UCI points.
Sunday I was riding so much better, having fun and pulling moves through the first corner. I made it through to the main for the 2nd UCI race and ended up with lane 4. I got out great but Hawkins had a good line into the first corner from lane 1. I made a sweet move under him on the exit of the flat corner and took over the lead. From there it was a smooth lap and I ended up taking the win. With this win, I took back the lead of the UCI Series, but with my 8th place yesterday, my lead will probably not last as I will not be able to race the next 3 races to better my scores. Now I have my 5 scores to take to the worlds and hopefully there I can pull off a good race which will give me a respectable World Ranking.
After the UCI final we then had the semi for the National race. I ended up getting a late gate and not making it to the main, I was not all that bummed as I did the job I came here for, which was to grab some UCI points. Jamie Gray ended up winning the National title, followed by Johnno and tiger. Middil fell in the first straight and ended up breaking his other wrist from last time.
I was pretty impressed how the with race was run overall, Australia is doing a good job with getting indoor tracks and running the races quickly. The World championship should be even better in Perth as the building is a lot bigger to build a really cool track.
I was staying at the AIS in Adelaide and ended up dragging out Sean Eadie and a few other to come party with the BMX crew. It was a fun night and it is always good to let loose after a race weekend.

On the way to another moto win during 4X.

A comfortable win against Shaun Palmer in the 1st round of Dual.

April 9th

Up early for Down Hill practice for a few runs, the course is a little longer than the years before. We then had to run off to one of the schools in the area as we did a school visit to promote the race and cycle safety for the kids. I then checked out the Mountain cross and slalom course. Slalom is basically the same but the mountain cross course has totally changed its style. Full on Dirt jump park, just like the BMX X games course. Not much pedaling going to happen, more of riding smooth and pumping the jumps and hanging on.

April 8th

Mio and I went for a cool ride along the beach in Monterey which went by Pebble's Beach Golf course. Went out to the race sight for a sec, then took a quick look down town and then chilled out at the beach most of the afternoon with Travis, Alison and Erin.

April 7th

We all packed up and headed out of the Redlands area. Mio, Roland, Eric and myself went to Oakley as Roland had to do Photo shoot. While we were waiting for Roland we went through the catalog and ordered a few things and also played on the new skate ramp they have inside the huge building of theirs. After lunch at Oakley we headed up the coast to Monterey for the Sea Otter Classic.

April 6th

Went back out to Robert's to pick some of my stuff up and had lunch. Stopped by the BMX track and did a few start on the BMX bike. Headed back to the Hotel to start packing up and loading up the truck with all our gear, as we are heading out of town tomorrow.

April 4th

Last few days I have been taking Mio to the local BMX track, Perris. Having some fun on our Mountain bikes on a really fun track. I have also watched a few of the stages of the Redlands Road Classic, cheering on my team mates. I have also been just organizing my stuff in the truck so things are good to go for the season.

Roland controlling the bunch.

April 1st

Today was the start of the Redlands Classic road race. I am out here hanging out and staying with the team, but I am just doing my own thing, no road racing for me this week. I rode at sheep hills this morning and it was in really good shape. I then went through some of my stuff at my storage shed and then drove out to Macpherson house. I had to run around today and do a few things, like renewing my drivers license and send some stuff back to Australia. I have so many new clothes from Training camp and sponsor, I just had to get rid of all my old stuff as I am now living on the rode. I then went to the gym with Robert in the late afternoon, just like old time's when we used to train together.

See you soon,
