WADE'S JOURNAL October 28th HAPPY
BIRTHDAY STEVEN!! A full weekend of Indy fun on the Gold Coast just went by and I have to say many thanks to Matty Martin from Oakley Australia for getting me and my family passes for the Indy car races and the Australian V8 car race series. We all had a blast being in the Corporate box above Pit Row on the starting line.
I got to meet some of the drivers through Matty and had dinner with a few of the V8 drivers, Greg Murphy, Todd and Ricky Kelly. Matty also got me into the drivers after party where I also got to meet a few more drivers, Paul Weel, Steven Johnson and the winners of the Indy race Mario Domingues and the V8 race Jason Bargwanna. Again we had a great night arriving back home in the early hours of the morning. A part from the Indy I have been training and organizing my trips to Melbourne and Japan this weekend and next week. Also catching up with some old friends by having a Bar BQ at the house. My Parents are Planing on Driving the Bus down to Melbourne to watch me race and stopping in on a few friends on the way. I fly in Friday and Fly out Sunday as I am planning on leaving for Japan Tuesday for a week of Filming and photos. My Track bike is built and is going into paint so I should see it in a few weeks. I am planning also to get all my parts from Japan as they are fully into it there. So my bike will be one of the best out there when it is all said and done, I can't wait. October 16th Last week I went to Perth, Western Australia for the release of the "Best on Earth in Perth" launch of all the events to be held in 2003. One of them is going to be the UCI BMX World Championships. I flew in the day before and got the full guided tour of the area of Perth. From the Airport I was taken to Hotel to check into the suite they had booked for me and then straight to a boat cruise from down town Perth to Fremantle Habour. We then walked through one of the happening areas there and then went on a Harley ride up the coast and stopped in at a few of the beaches.
I never knew Perth was such a pretty place. Everyone who comes to the Worlds next year is going to have a lot of fun as everything is right there. The venue is Huge and it is right down town amongst the Hotels and Restaurants. This will be most defiantly the Best World Championships BMX has ever seen. Dont miss out on the action. I then flew back into Sydney where I meet up with Dad to pack up the house in Sydney and get ready to sell. I meet up with a few of my old friends that I have not seen in a long time. We basically did the job in Sydney and then got on the road as soon as possible to get back to the Gold Coast. The next day we spent unpacking the truck and putting stuff through out the house. This week I am back into training for the next few races coming up. Weather is already starting to get hot so the pool in the back yard will come in handy. Well, finally I have time to sit down and write a few things as I am on a plane flying to Perth for the "Best on Earth in Perth" Launch, for next years UCI BMX World Championships. I will just give you a quick run down on what I have been doing for the past month or so. Here we go: After the Norba Finals I went back to California and started to pack my stuff up before I went to Europe as I was moving back to Australia. I ended up 7th at the MTB World Championships in Austria, 5th at the last MTB World Cup in France and finished 4th overall in the World Cup series.
I arrived back from Europe on Sunday night and left for Australia Monday night. I am moving back to Australia so I can spend some time with my Mom. She has been diagnosed with cancer again and this time it is terminal cancer. I am lucky to have the chance to spend some time at home in Australia and still be able to race and do promotional gigs World Wide. I have a few things lined up with racing the ABA Fall Nationals in the US, TV race in Melbourne, Australia, Film and photo Shoot in Japan and the ABA Grand Nationals. Then I am going to do some Velodrome work and prepare myself for the next MTB season. There are a few big races down under with the X games, BMX, MTB and Track Races, so I will still keep myself busy like always. 2 days before I arrived back my Parents moved into my new house at the Gold Coast. They have been working hard the past 2 months looking and finalizing all the details on the house.
I have been busy moving in and organizing my new home. JBL Audio has supplied me with a Kick Ass Home System which should be all hooked up by the time I get back. I will post a photo when it is all set up. The day I arrived into Australia my Grandma past away (Dads Mom). The next week we had a family week as my brother Jeff from the States came over and my brother Steven and cousin Greg flew in from Melbourne to stay. We had a great day out with the motor home and the jet ski out in the broad water and the ocean. All of us have not been together for a really long time. It was great to be back as a family.
I started training again for the last few races for the year. My Moms Birthday was Yesterday, we also celebrated it when everyone else was here as well. This week will be busy as I will be in Perth for 2 days and then fly back into Sydney where I will meet up with my Dad. We are then cleaning out the house in Sydney as he is ready to sell up.
