WADE'S JOURNAL

Dec 15th.

Yesterday's race was fun and hard. I was just hanging on down the back of the pack for the first few laps not really worried to much, but I have to say I was doing some hard work hanging in there. The course was tight and the further down the back you are the harder you have to sprint out of the corners due to all the bunching up. For the first 10 minutes my heart rate was averaging at 170 beats per minute. I finally got closer to the front but not close enough to get through the corners smoothly with the group. There were alot of crashes right in front of me which made it even harder to get back onto the main bunch sometimes. Towards the end of the 40 minutes I started to cramp up some and had to settle where I was in the pack, about 12th. In the last corner I put in some hard cranks and eventually made my way up to 5th across the line. This put me on the podium and gave me a few prizes and some money as well. I really enjoyed racing and would like to do more later on, but now I have to concentrate more on shorter and powerful training methods to get ready for the season ahead.
Later that night I got to hang out with some the Australian A grade and Tour De France riders as well as the winner for of the day Robbie McEwen. We had a cool little bar B Q and then went into town for the evening. It was a great night and a good way to end the weekend.

Only a few laps to go, and just hanging on.

Dec 13th.

This week I have been fixing up the house a little. As I am not here that much, I finally have time to get some new furniture and paint the rooms the way I want them. I have started out with my bedroom and it is looking really good. I have also wired in the new stereo system that I won from the Jeep Series this year.
Tomorrow I am racing in the Surfers Paradise Road Crit. This will be a bunch of fun and hard work as it will be a hard 40+ minutes of racing. I am going to have the Motor Home set up with the JBL system Blasting and also giving out a few stickers and stuff. You cannot get any better location as we will be set up and riding along the Beach at Surfers Paradise.

Dec 6th.

Today I flew down to Sydney for the Australian Cyclist of the Year Awards. I really didn't think I had any chance of winning anything as I didn't have a great year of racing. It ended up being a great night as we had dinner and drinks on Cycling Australia and I got to see a lot of the guys from the AIS who I trained with at the start of the year. I sat with the small down hill mountain bike crew, Nathan Rennie, Katrina Miller and some friends. I ended up winning the Australian BMX Cyclist of the year Award as I was the highest UCI World Rank rider in Australia, which was 5th and also placing 7th at the UCI World Championships. I was totally shocked as I race BMX for fun and training these days to prepare for the Mountain bike season. Due to the major crash I had in May, at the National Track Championship put a big set back in my major goals for the year. With Katrina and Nathan winning the Mountain bike awards, we ended up having the most Awards on a table for the night. After the presentations and when we were all done chatting to everyone, we headed off to the City for a night out. Here we met up with some of my old buddies from back in the early BMX days. We all had a bunch of fun catching up as we celebrated the awards we just won. My trip to Sydney was quick as I will be leaving in the morning back home to the Gold Coast.
